How To: Use Interlibrary Loan

HOW TO | USE INTERLIBRARY LOAN (ILL)

Interlibrary Loan Request Form

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

The interlibrary loan (ILL) service can help you locate books, book chapters, journal articles, and a variety of media not available from Warren Hunting Smith Library. If an item you need is not in our collection, you can submit a request.

Faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students, emeriti, and adjunct faculty may use ILL. Alumni and external borrower cardholders are not eligible for ILL services.

First-time users will need to create a profile. Log in with your Hobart and Williams Smith Colleges User ID and Password (same as your email). As a first-time user, you will need to enter your personal contact information. Once complete you can begin requesting.

For additional information please consult the FAQs tab.

Renewal Policies

The lending period for items and their renewals are determined by the lending library. This varies with each item. If you intend to renew an interlibrary loan item, please keep the following policies in mind:

  • Items should be renewed within 7 days of the due date.

  • Overdue items may not be renewed by the patron. Please contact Interlibrary Loan to request a renewal.

  • Renewals are confirmed or denied via email. If you do not receive an email within 3 business days, please contact Interlibrary Loan.

  • Renewal is not guaranteed. Renewals are granted at the discretion of the lending library, not Warren Hunting Smith Library.  If your renewal is denied, please submit another request for the item so that we may obtain it from another library, rather than returning the item late.

  • Renewal periods vary by lender.
