Make Sure You Can Cite It

When searching for images and media, remember to make sure that you have all of the information to properly cite your resource. This includes information like:

  • Author, Artist, Creator, Photographer, etc.
  • Title of the Work
  • Date of Publication/Creation
  • Medium, e.g. photo, oil on canvas, video, etc. 
  • Dimension or Duration, e.g. time, measurements, weight, etc. 
  • Publisher or Owner, e.g. magazine, newspaper, museum that owns the work
  • Reference or Object Number, commonly used by museums or cultural institutions as a way of cataloguing items in the collection. 
  • Digital Object Identifier (DOI) or Uniform Resource Locator (URL)
